WELCOME!
My working style stems from my early training in reproducing other artwork in order to learn how to handle various mediums and improve at certain techniques. As a result, I tend toward representational manifestations of my ideas as opposed to conceptual or abstract renderings. I see objects, scenes, and images as challenges to depict on paper and in the digital world. In addition to degree in Studio Art, I have 15 years of experience as a Personal Trainer and Health Educator with a degree in exercise science/kinesiology. This background has always driven me towards imagery having to do with anatomy and the human body - and most recently, pursuing a BFA in Biomedical Visualization.
Digitally I've enjoyed diving into the world of 3-D Rendering and Animation, particularly using Maya and Mudbox for textured, organic renderings of anatomy. The value of creating an asset that can be adapted and re-purposed for multiple projects has immense appeal, and the educational uses of medical illustration has great personal value to me as a health educator. I enjoy breaking down complex medical concepts into easy to understand concepts for the public, healthcare professionals, and for other science enthusiasts like myself.
In traditional mediums, I am currently pushing myself to master work more quickly and loosely using materials such as soft chalk pastel or a liquid medium to bring a new life and freedom to the images I create. I've always aspired to include every facet and detail of each object I depict, but revel in the power of images which convey an object by only suggesting its essence.
My pieces, as well as myself as an artist, are always a work in progress. However, I hope that when people look at my work they are drawn in by the overall aesthetic and resolution at a quick glance, but are then contented to stay and discover an aspect of the image which resonates with their own experiences.
Thank you!
